Can I weld & vacuumize each foil?

Basically you can weld almost every professional vacuum sealer bag or any continuous roll (whether smooth or textured) to 200µ thickness with a Lava. A Lava vacuum sealer has no problem to be used as a typical "sealer", which has, however, the advantage that it can also vacuuming. A lava vacuum sealer seals the foil reliably with a 1-fold, 2-or 3-way weld. Basically Lava recommends for vacuuming the structured R-Vac vacuum bag or lava E-Vac vacuum rolls or in the industrial sector a Lava i-vac ESD vacuum bag. However, the vacuuming of smooth standard vacuum-sealed bags or ESD foils is also possible, but should remain strong at least 120µ and then overlapped inserted into the device. Normal standard domestic plastic bags can be vacuumed but due to the poor quality of the foil (air-permeable and usually very thin) will pull back air and thus freezer burn will ocour. Tip for vacuum sealer power user: from 1,000 vacuum bags (these may be mixed), there are attractive special conditions in the Lava shop.

How to vacuum seal smooth vacuum bags?
Normal standard domestic plastic bags can be vacuumed but due to the poor quality of the foil (air-permeable and usually very thin) will pull back air and thus freezer burn will ocour. Smooth side-sealed vacuum bags, however, can easily be vacuumed with at least 120µ thickness, this is just a little bit more complex. How this is be done, will be explained here:

Vacuum bag in the standard version - Vacuum packaging smooth standard vacuum bag using a Lava is easy. See yourself .. The usual smooth edge-seal vacuum bags (at least 120µ thick) will be "pushed overlapped each other" on the top bag opening (see left figure) and in this state put under the special Lava bag stop bar (see top figure). The Lava professional vacuum sealer vacuuming easy and quick commercially available smooth and reasonably cheap sachets from a thickness of 120µ, due to a special bag-folding technique.

When vacuuming of rolls, the bag again draws air

First, cut with scissors to desired foil-length from the roll. Now, one side will be welded. Please note that the foil will be layed only on the welding tape and not up to the stop bar. Do the welding easily in the automatic mode. The pump will start because the device needs to generate a vacuum to make a clean weld. Now, if one side is welded, fill the vacuum bag and vacuum it.

Can I vacuum seal liquids?

Liquids can be vacuumed in small quantities without any problems. It is always advisable to have a Lava vacuum sealer with a 2- or 3-welding for this use cases. In larger amounts, for example, soups, sauces and stews Lava recommends only vacuum cases. These are available as gastronorm vacuum cases or in plastic or stainless steel. The suction device which is necessary comes with your Lava by default.

The vacuum sealed container draws air again
The Lava new-line vacuum lid and cases in 2002 were tested by the institute Fresenius, and held about 25 days long tight, which is on a short-term storage a lot. Generally, we recommend for cases and lids always a short-term storage with max. 10 days. Please check that the following points were taken into account
  • Please remove the valve and wash out completely, that it is always residue.
  • The seals must be completely clean, without residues
  • The vessel, which is vacuumed must have a broad, smooth edge
  • The suction device always remove the device and NOT on the valve cover

Wie lassen sich Twist-Off bzw. Einmachgläser vakuumieren?
übrigens: Praktische Lava Twist-Off Gläser finden Sie im Shop.

The vacuum bag will not be vacuumized
  • Check the bag, whether it was placed inside the unit below the stop bar. The vacuum bag must be placed neatly and shall not have bumps.
  • Do you use structured vacuum bags or smooth vacuum bags? If you use smooth vacuum bags you must ensure that they are at least 120µ thick and be placed specifically into the device. How this will be done will be explained in: Vacuuming of smooth sachets.
  • In rare cases it can happen that that you need to press a little bit stronger, when using a new unit. Push down the device door. This is neccessary to the vacuum can be generated. The reason for the increased pressures at the beginning is at the seals.
  • The pressure regulation L+ (accessory) is open too wide; close them that the device can create a vacuum.
  • Remove the rectangular sponge rubber gasket at the bottom of the device and in the device door. Clean and dry them and install them again.

The device does not automatically weld
  • Remove the rectangular sponge rubber gasket at the bottom of the device and in the device door. Clean and dry them and install them again.
